SaraMrs. Sara Gilmore Thompson Tuck, 96, formerly of Sulligent, AL, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 in Katy, Texas. Visitation will be at Otts Funeral home Friday evening, January 24, 2014 from 6-7:30 p.m. A private graveside service and burial will be held at the Sulligent City Cemetery at 11:00 am Saturday, January 25, 2014, for family members. A public “Celebration of Sara’s Life” memorial will follow the private graveside service and burial at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Sulligent First United Methodist Church. Reverend Blake Thompson, her great nephew, will officiate. Mrs. Tuck was born in Sulligent, Alabama on August 2, 1917 to Archer Russell and Susie Horton Gilmore. She was a resident of Sulligent for most of the first sixty years of her life. Following the death of her husband, Troy Thompson, she married Claude Tuck, Jr. and spent the following thirty years of her life in Winder, Georgia. For the last five years, she lived in Niceville, Florida and Katy, Texas with her daughters. Mrs. Tuck retired as a school teacher where she taught sixth grade and Jr. High science in Sulligent. She graduated from The University of Alabama. She loved the church and was an active member of the United Methodist church, both in Sulligent and Winder. Survivors include her three daughters, Liz Hayden of Katy, Texas, Jane Wood of Winder, Georgia and Priscilla Kelly of Niceville, Florida; one son, David Tuck of Atlanta, Georgia;. three son-in-laws, Earl Hayden, Ted Wood, and Dwight Kelly; six grandchildren, Breanna John, Bryan Hayden, Claudia Strow, Crystal Stevens, Michael and Darrell Kelly, and their spouses; eleven great grand-children and many nieces, nephews and friends.Memorials may be made “In Memory” of Ms. Tuck to: First United Methodist Church of Sulligent,AL; Shiloh Baptist Church, Sulligent, AL; Winder First Methodist Church, Winder, GA.
