A private gathering and graveside service was held for Mrs. Sara Fay Smith, age 89 of Ashland, on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the Clay County Memory Gardens with Bro. Rusty Craig and Bro. Cody Hale officiating.

Mrs. Smith passed away peacefully from her earthly life and Heavenly home on Monday, September 28, 2020. She was one of five children born to Luther and Hattie Smith and was a graduate of Bibb Graves High School in Millerville. Sara moved to Ashland in 1950 when she married James Lofton Smith. She worked at Higgins Slacks in Lineville and later became supervisor at Southland Manufacturing in Ashland where she worked until she retired. Sara’s family was her greatest joy. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ashland, loved cooking, bird watching, and football. She was a dedicated Clay County Panther fan, she enjoyed watching the Crimson Tide, and especially cherished chances to watch her grandson, Clint Smith, coach the game she so loved. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

She leaves behind cherished memories with her two sons: Jimmy “Bo” (Rhonda) Smith and Keith (Tracie) Smith, both of Ashland; three grandchildren: Clint (Ashley) Smith of Jacksonville, Megan Hale (Bro. Cody) of Anniston, and Hannah Smith of New Orleans, LA; 5 great-grandchildren: Reed, Gracie, Sara, Madi, and Josiah; one sister, Gail Grogan of Lineville; one brother, Roger Smith of Franklin, NC and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Lofton Smith; parents: Martin Luther Smith and Hattie Wesley Smith; one grandson, Ryan Smith; one sister, Barbara Smith Hardegree, and one brother, Gene Smith.

Active Pallbearers will be Tony Hardegree, Denny Hodge, Ronnie Smith, Brian Butler, Walt Endress, and Josh Nelson
