Sandra Moffett Marshall Caldwell (Sandy) died in Anniston, Alabama, on June 30, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on June 19, 1942, in Pensacola, Florida, the daughter of George and Cornelia Moffett Marshall. Her maternal grandfather was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, Florida, from 1911 to 1922.
Sandy graduated from Pensacola High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Florida State University. She was also awarded a Master’s Degree in Library Science from FSU.
In 1966, she married Ronald James Caldwell and moved to Orlando, Florida. The couple returned to Tallahassee in 1968 and remained there until 1971. When she moved to Jacksonville, Alabama, she was employed as a university librarian and a public-school librarian for several years.
Sandy was a devoted parishioner at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and helped organize and lead the Anna Maria Hoke Chapter of The Daughters of the King. She also traveled extensively in Europe and North America.
Sandy and Ron brought up their twin daughters Margaret Mary Caldwell Shatswell (of Jacksonville) and Elizabeth Anne Caldwell (of Lancaster, South Carolina). She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth’s husband The Rev. Philip Emanuel, and Margaret’s daughter Madison Rae Shatswell of Durant, Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Caldwell’s ashes will be interred at Bayview Memorial Park in Pensacola. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 55, Jacksonville, Alabama 36265.
