Sandra J. Syler, age 89 of Winchester, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A native of Franklin County, she was born on January 3, 1937, in Winchester to the late John Thomas Chauncey and Nettie Aline (Money) Cowan. Before her retirement, she was employed as a Teacher Assistant by the Franklin County Board of Education. Her love for children continued through her church service as she taught Children’s Church and Sunday School for over thirty years at Oaklawn Baptist Church. A devout Christian, she loved the Lord. She enjoyed cross-stitching, cooking, and working puzzles. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family, especially her precious grandbabies. Her sweet spirit and loving and caring nature will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Syler; and siblings, Jonell Farris, Norma Sloan, Tom Cowan, and Bill Cowan. Sandra is survived by her loving children, Brian (Anita) Syler, Joy Martin, and Brad (Lynn) Syler; grandchildren, Ericka (Josh) Olsen, Jamie Syler, Kayce Syler, and Cody Syler; great-grandchildren, Haley Olsen, Heidi Olsen, Hopie Olsen, Harper Olsen, Avacyn Syler, and Jean McCoy Brasher; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held from 12-1pm on Friday, September 18, 2026, with funeral services following at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Gardner officiating.
