Sandra H. Clotfelter – Obituary

Mrs. Sandra H. Clotfelter, 75, of Decatur, died on Tuesday March 15th, 2016. She lived a wonderful life and loved her family and friends deeply. She was an encouragement to everyone she met.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday March 17th at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home, Decatur. Services will be held on Friday March 18th at 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Decatur, with a graveside service and burial at Forrest Cemetery, 15th Street, Gadsden, to follow approximately 3:30 p.m with Rev. Ray Crump and Rev. Ray Formby officiating.
Mrs. Clotfelter was born on June 6th, 1940, Gadsden, AL to the late Sidney L. Hicks and Bernice C. Hicks. Sandra graduated from Gadsden High School and Jacksonville State University. She married the late John W. Clotfelter in 1960. During their 54 years of marriage together they raised two sons and served over 40 years in pastoral ministry in the United Methodist Church North Alabama Conference. During their ministry for Christ, they served over 18 churches in their appointments. Sandra taught High Schooll and Adult classes as an educator. She served as an Administrative Assistant to more than five consecutive UMC District Superintendents. She was active in ministries that supported missions, women, and children. She sang alto in the choir and was a highly requested Sunday School teacher. She was an avid participant in Camp Bluebird and Relay For Life as a three time cancer survivor. Most of all, “Mama C” loved and enjoyed her four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Col (Ret.) Kevin D. Clotfelter (Laurie) of Perry, Ga., and Ivan B. Clotfelter (Sophia), Decatur; grandchildren, Adam Hammett (Jennifer), Abilene, Texas and Joseph Hammett (Kristin), Warner-Robins, Ga., Anna Catherine Clotfelter and Stella Ruth Clotfelter, of Decatur, great-grandchildren; Payton Hammett, Emerson Hammett Miles Hammett, and Owen Hammett. She is also survived by her sister Sidney Anne Hicks Waters (Jim) of Athens, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sages, (Older Adults) Central UMC, Decatur and the members (Adult Cancer Survivors) and counseslors of Camp Bluebird.
