With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and military veteran who left a mark on everyone he met on July 16, 2026.

He walked closely with God, living his life as a testament of his deep faith. He served his country in the army with honor and integrity. He enjoyed time near the water with a fishing rod in hand, cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, and was the ultimate antagonizing competitor on a chessboard. He played to win, but more importantly, he played to laugh. No one will ever forget his unique, infectious laugh that instantly filled a room. Above any hobbies or achievements, his faith came first and he treasured his family.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Sherry C. Evans of Alexander City; two daughters: Shannon Evans Boyd (Jamie) of Ashland and Samantha Grace Evans of Vestavia Hills; three grandchildren: Sarah Grace Boyd Cuevas (Joshua), Ethan Daniel Boyd, and Lydia Elizabeth Boyd; one sister, Mary Wiggins of Wetumpka; three brothers: Hoyt Walton Evans of Wetumpka, William “Bill” Eugene Evans (Carolyn) of Atlanta, GA, and Sandy Gerald Evans of Selma; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel William and Lucille Alma Elliott Evans; and three sisters: Ruth Evans Spotto, Carolyn Evans Roberts, and Sylvia Yvonne Evans Thrailkill.

Active Pallbearers will be Ethan Boyd, Jamie Boyd, Joshua Cuevas, and Gerald Boyd.

His visitation will take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland beginning at 2:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.

Your final battle is won, your line is cast in perfect waters, and your legacy is carried on by those you left behind.

Romans 10:9-11 NIV “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.
