Mr. Samuel “Sam” Pearce Holton III, age 60, passed away Wednesday March 11, 2026.

Sam Holton will be remembered for his huge heart, generosity, and kindness toward people from all walks of life. He began his career in the Florida Keys, working for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in 1985. In 1999 and 2000, he served in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, as a United Nations Police Officer. After returning, he moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he worked for the Tallahassee Police Department in many roles throughout his career.

Sam was a very intelligent man with a wide range of talents, interests, and passions. He retired in 2020 and soon after relocated to Spencer, Tennessee, where he opened Spencer Coin and Silver. Though he was loved by many in many places, his heart was truly captured by the community of Spencer. While he knew many people in Tallahassee, he formed especially strong friendships in Spencer.

Sam spent his final days happy, content, and deeply grateful for the many friendships in his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Pearce Holton II, and his wife, Lisa Orcutt. There is no doubt that Sam earned his angel wings.

He lives on in spirit through his daughter, Alex (Sophie) Holton; his mother, Nancy Swords; his aunt, Norma Plumley; his sister, Laura Brooks; his niece, Morgan Knapp; and his brother-in-law, John Orcutt.

A service will be announced in the coming weeks.
