A member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, he loved the Lord and his Catholic faith.
Sammy graduated from Minor High School and the University of Montevallo, where he played on the tennis teams. He continued to love the game and even recently tried to play. He taught and coached many over the years, from children to adults, but young folks were his favorite.
He retired as custodian from Pleasant Grove Elementary School. Besides doing his job, he supported and encouraged the children, attending their ball games and special programs, and volunteering to work with the high school tennis team. He coached little league baseball and basketball. He also worked for years in prison ministries with adults and juveniles. He witnessed to them and wrote each one personally.
