Samuel Flood Samuel Flood 2/27/46 — 3/19/25

Samuel Flood, 79, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025 at Ascension St. Thomas hospital in Nashville, surrounded by family.

Sam was born in Manteca, California in 1946 to the late Flora (Adney) Flood Darden and Hoyle Oran Flood. He served in the U. S. Army for 2 years serving in Korea during the late 60s. Until he retired, Sam was an engineer working in the chemical and nuclear power industries, which took him many places around the country and the world. Of late, he and his wife Kathleen enjoyed living on a small farm in south central Tennessee.

Sam was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a good friend and neighbor who would help anyone in need. He loved to cook and shared many wonderful recipes and meals with family and friends over the years. Sam was an avid gardener who loved spending time tending to his beautiful roses and vegetable garden. He was a talented singer who wrote his own songs and made recordings to share with his kids. He also enjoyed the outdoors, had a love for hiking, camping, canoeing, sailing and fishing. At one time he was an excellent Ballroom Dancer and Instructor and was an all-around DIY man. He could fix almost anything. He loved animals; particularly his three Shih Tzu’s and had an especially strong bond with his little Shih Tzu Tucker, who loved him dearly. We’ll always be able to smile at the memories of him in his performances as “old Elvis” impersonator called The Silver King.”

Sam is survived by his wife of 24 years Kathleen, son Tommy Flood (Linnette), two daughters Cheryl Gehringer (Michael) and Cathe Simonson (Megan), and son Cameron Flood. He’s also survived by brothers Virgil Flood, Ted Flood, Ernest Burk and, sister Florence Dobin Earp as well as 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by parents Flora Adney Flood and Hoyle Oran Flood, his sister Lee Marie Brooks, and son Shawn Michael Flood.

His family would like to thank the care team at St. Thomas for making Sam comfortable and treating him with dignity and respect in his final days.
Services will be private. If you’d like to honor Sam’s memory, make a big meal to share with family, play some Elvis songs and sing along joyously, give a dog (or 2!) a new home, plant a rose or help a neighbor in need. He would be happy to know you did.

Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements for Samuel Flood.
