Sammy Harrison Keyes, 73 of Athens, passed away on Monday, January 29th, 2024, at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Keyes was born on June 18th, 1950, in Alabama, to Edgar “Ned” Keyes and Floyce Pepper Keyes.
Mr. Keyes is survived by his nieces Robin James (Jeremie) and Roxanne Reynolds; sister-in-law Jenny Keyes; and a host of extended family and beloved cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Anthony “Tony” Keyes and Roger Keyes.
Funeral services for Mr. Keyes will be Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at 2:00pm at Bethel Church of Christ, with Jimmy Clark officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00-1:45pm at the church. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hayden Clem, Jeremie James, Johnny Keyes, Bill Keyes, Mike Bates, and Brent Pepper. Honorary pallbearers will be Cason Clem, Richard Keyes, Mike Keyes, Ronald Pepper, Jeff Pepper, and Thomas Haggermaker.
Mr. Keyes was a special man with a heart of gold. He was always willing to help and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and helping the homebound. He was also a volunteer for the VFW Burials and was a member for the Sons of the Confederacy. He was a past president of the Sportsman Club and was a lifetime member of Bethel Church of Christ. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
