FLORENCE – Umbrellas and ponchos were in fashion Saturday night as organizers and Artists of The 7th Annual Sam Phillips Music Celebration kept the concert on track. The show, which was supposed to start at 6 o’clock was delayed by a little over 2 hours due to heavier-than-expected rain showers. The weather forecast for The Shoals had called for the clouds to move out in time for the music. But the rain had other ideas.
First up on stage, was Second Creek. They got the damp crowd warmed up for the follow-on acts.
Next came the Atlanta Rhythm Section, followed by Shoals Favorite Son, Mac MacAnally. Then, late in the evening, came Jimmy Hall and Wet Willie.
By the time the music was in full swing, most of the audience had forgotten about the rain.
The Quad-Cities Daily special photojournalist and music insider, Dick Cooper was at the event, and has provided us with these photographs. Monday, more photos from Dick, Dave Reasons, and Sheri and Steve Wiggins will be published.
