Sam Delk Kennedy, 91, retired Columbia attorney and former manager, editor and publisher of Columbia Daily Herald, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at his residence on Mapleash Avenue.

A worship service celebrating our hope in the resurrection will be held Friday at 4:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church. The family cordially invites family and friends to a celebration of life at The Greenway Farm, 1149 Mapleash Avenue, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday. A private family burial will be held. Born December 9, 1926 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Dr. Henry Grady Kennedy and the late Annie Porter Delk Kennedy.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ridley “Betty” Finney Kennedy of Columbia; son, Sam Delk Kennedy, Jr. (Mary Susan Berry Kennedy) of Columbia; daughter, Elizabeth Ridley Finney Kennedy Blackstone (William “Billy”) of Columbia; sister, Frances Kennedy Logsdon of Columbia; grandchildren, Samuel Delk Kennedy III (Rachel Vest Kennedy), Mary Susan Berry Kennedy, William Emory Blackstone, Jr., John “Jack” Finney Kennedy Blackstone, Elizabeth “Eliza” Ridley Hartwell Blackstone; great grandchildren, Margaret Berry Kennedy and Samuel Delk Kennedy, IV; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie Mae Lain, Betty Gentry, Jane Farley and brothers, William “Dub” Kennedy, Grady Kennedy, Roy Kennedy.

Active pallbearers will be Samuel Delk Kennedy, III, John “Jack” Finney Kennedy Blackstone, William Emory Blackstone, Jr., Tim Locke, Drake Colley, John Colley, and DeWitt Logsdon. Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Colley, Beverly Douglas, Waymon Hickman, and Harold Pryor.
