Sadie Arnette Chandler, age 93 of Decherd, passed away at her residence on Saturday, August 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Port St. Joe, Florida, on July 5, 1933, to the late David C. and Roxie (Whitehead) Arnette. Sadie was a devoted educator, beginning her career in the classroom and eventually working for the State Department of Education. After thirty years of service, she retired and was recognized by then Tennessee Governor Lamar Alexander for her training program for teachers, True Colors. She then continued working in the education field as a consultant. Artistic by nature, she enjoyed music, directing plays and musicals, as well as collecting art and antiques. She loved to travel around the world and had visited twenty-five countries. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family. She was a dedicated member of Winchester Methodist Church. Sadie’s family and friends will remember her beautiful, caring nature. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, David Arnette, Virgie Atwell, and Marguerite Tootle. Sadie is survived by her loving husband of sixty-nine years, James W. “Bill” Chandler; daughter, Kathi (Ken) Yacobozzi; son, Richard Chandler; grandchildren, Lynn Nicole (William) Weirs, Joshua David (Jennifer) Chandler, and Jeremy Blake Chandler; great-grandchildren, David Vann Chandler and Ava Elizabeth Weirs; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members. Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm EST on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Eastview Cemetery in Rome, Georgia.
