Ruth Ann (Roberson) McGee passed away peacefully at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, AL on Sunday, January 16, at the age of 76 after a brief illness. She was born in Wayne County, TN, on November 18, 1945, to John Frank and Nina Roberson.

Ruth’s early life was hard, losing her mother at an early age. She married at 15 and had 3 children by the age of 20. These early years helped develop the character and strength that she would display the rest of her life. The love that she missed from her mother’s passing, she eagerly poured into her husband, children, and grandchildren. Due to those early circumstances in life, she never received her high school diploma. However, even up to her passing, she was avid reader, often reading 2-3 books a week. This was her higher education, and she was as smart as a whip.

Her faith started small but really grew over the last 15 years. She loved God and had blessed assurance in her salvation. She didn’t have a ton of close friends, but if ‘Miss Ruth’ called you a friend, then you had a friend indeed. She was a great cook specializing in southern cuisine. She leaves behind a big hole in the hearts of her family and friends and will be truly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Frank and Nina Roberson; three brothers, David, Ben, and Gene Roberson; and one sister, Ellen McGee.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clarence McGee; three sons, Greg (Loralei) of Tupelo, MS, Roger (Lori) of Charleston, S.C. and Duane (Donna) of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Nena, Lauren, Jacob, Logan, Georgia and Ruth Ellen; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Kimberly and Remington. She also leaves behind a beloved a niece, (a daughter-she-never had) and best friend Cathy (Jim) McGuffey; her good friend, Sharon Tallent; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 19, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home of Florence.  The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 20, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will be at Antioch Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
