RUSSELLVILLE-Last night, July 17, 2026, officers with the Russellville Police Department responded to a reported altercation at Mills Trailer Park.  Franklin County Coroner Charles Adcox confirmed that the suspect was a 28-year-old male and he died during the shooting.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male DoorDash delivery driver being actively assaulted with a knife by a male suspect. One of our officers immediately intervened, placing himself between the suspect and the victim in an effort to stop the attack. The suspect then turned his attention toward the officer and attacked him with at least one knife, causing injuries.
In response to the immediate deadly threat, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect and ending the attack.
Our officer was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released. We are thankful that he is recovering and commend his courage and selfless actions. His quick and decisive response likely prevented further serious injury or loss of life.
In accordance with standard procedure, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is conducting an independent investigation into this officer-involved shooting. Because the investigation is ongoing, we are limited in the information we can release at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available and when appropriate to do so.
At approximately the same time, the Russellville Police Department also responded to a separate and unrelated shooting in the 500 block of Carroll Ave SE.
That incident involved two adult male subjects. One individual is currently in custody, and the other was airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment. This incident is under investigation, and additional information may be released at a later time.
There is no ongoing threat to the community related to either incident.
We ask that you keep our injured officer, the victim of the stabbing, those involved in the second incident, their families, and all first responders in your thoughts and prayers. We also appreciate the patience and support of our community as these investigations continue.
