Russell Lowell Durham, 70 of Fort Payne, Alabama passed away on June 29, 2024 at the Cherokee County Health and Rehab Center located in Centre. Born November 4, 1953, Russell is survived by his sister Connie Durham, aunt Joanne Durham, ex-brother-in-law John Hancock, his nephew David Hancock (Misty) and his children Kaylee and Alexander; his niece Jenifer Wisniewski (Jason) and her children Joanne and Ezekiel. He is preceded in death by his parents Derward and Marie Durham and several beloved dogs including Rocky, Rocky II, and Rusty.
Russell was a class of 1972 graduate of Fort Payne High School. As a high school wrestler, Russell succeeded in becoming the lightweight state champion in Alabama fighting at 98 pounds. He attended Jacksonville State University. He also held his black belt in karate and loved teaching others the sport. He had a love for the outdoors, a passion for sport fighting, and a kind heart for all but especially his dogs.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Payne on Sunday July 14th with a visitation beginning at 2:00pm and memorial service starting at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Payne at 300 Grand Ave NW, Fort Payne, AL 35967.
