Funeral Services for Mr. Russ Johnson, age 85 of Shinbone Community, will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Union D Baptist Church with Rev. David Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Johnson passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Brilliant, AL and lived in that community until he served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. After his military stint, he began working in Birmingham for a Financial Company as a manager. After marrying His sweetheart, Sarah Morrow, they moved to Compton, California and began working for a manufacturing company. They moved and worked in Upland, California for 15 years, Mansfield Ohio several years, North Carolina and New York, beginning new manufacturing businesses in each place they moved before retiring and settling in Alabama. Outside of Work, Mr. Johnson enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing pinochle. He enjoyed being at home and was one of the family.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah Morrow Johnson of Delta; his daughter, Joan Canteberry (Ed) of Brilliant; three sons: Jimmy Johnson (Teresa) of Knoxville, TN, Paul Johnson (Susan) of Honduras, and Michael Johnson of the Shinbone Community, plus many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Claude and Francis Marie Franklin Johnson; his son, Thomas Johnson; and one sister, Beverly Kone.
Active Pallbearers will be Leon Morrow, Sam Morrow, Kenneth Bell, Steven Morrow, Parker Morrow, and Vic Morrow.
Nelson Morrow will serve as honorary pallbearer.
His visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Union D Baptist Church from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
