Funeral service for Ruel Harvey Byrd, age 89, of Hartselle, will be Saturday, January 9, 2016, 1:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Patricia Byrd and Rev. Ralph Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service. Interment will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Byrd, who died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at his residence, was born April 13, 1926, in Morgan County, to Thomas Byrd and Effie Chasteen Byrd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Vinzant Byrd, and his great-great-grandson, Quenton Riley Garrison. Mr. Byrd was employed by Goodyear, and was a WWII veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Landers (Jerry) of Decatur, and Rev. Patricia Byrd of Hartselle; two brothers, Frank Byrd (Annette) of Hartselle, and Paul Byrd (Laverne) of Falkville; two sisters, Willie Roberts of Cullman, and Inez Holmes of Moulton; four grandchildren, Patty Jo Smallwood (Tim), Kim Collins (Chet), Elizabeth Slaughter (Kevin), and Jerie Hall; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be family.
