Rubye Rickard Haddock passed away June 7, 2016, at home after extended illnesses. Mrs. Haddock was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County. She was born, lived, and died on the Hall family farm in the Oakland community. A faithful wife of 67 years, devoted mother, and loving friend, she managed her home, as well as a career as a United States Rural Letter Carrier for 22 years. In addition, she was an accomplished singer, published songwriter, and poet extraordinaire, having released a volume of poetry entitled Woodland Springs and Other Things.
She was an avid supporter of the arts and was a Girl Scout leader and camp director for many years, influencing the lives of countless young women in North Alabama. She loved her family, her church, and, most importantly, her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was truly a light in a dark world.
She was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence Herbert Rickard and Annie Hall Rickard; and sisters, Eleanor Ruth Rickard and, most recently, Barbara Anne Rickard.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Haddock; daughters, Kathy Waitzman (Paul) and Julie Hummel (Hayes); son, Heyward Haddock (Tina); six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today 6 to 8 p. m. and Friday 1 to 2 p.m. with service following at 2 p.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel, Joel Caudel officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bennett Creamer, Donovan Creamer, Jesse Hummel, Austin Creamer, Paul Waitzman and Hayes Hummel.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to the members of Glendale Church of Christ for their loving care during her years of illness, Amedisys Home Health Services, Dr. Danny McFall and staff, Dr. Sean Rhuland and staff, and Dr. Anthony Kalliath and staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to North Alabama Christian Children’s Home, 6372 Co. Rd. 63, Florence, AL 35634 or the Fellowship Building Fund at Glendale Church of Christ, 8000 Co. Rd. 200, Florence, AL 35633.
