Ruby Wade Hopper Wear

Mrs. Ruby Wade Hopper Wear, age 97, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends as she entered the Pearly Gates of Heaven to meet, her Lord and Savior forever, along with her loved ones that had passed on before her.

Ruby was born on May 26, 1928 to John Harold and Stella Rippletoe Wade.

She worked as a carhop at a drive-in and the customers absolutely fell in love with her speaking that good Southern Charm. She later went to work at the hosiery and undergarment mill. Her last job that she loved the most was working at GE as a fork lift operator. She had many friends that worked there and had many laughs. For example, when she hit the water pipe close to the ceiling and water poured all over her head.

She grow-up in Church and always loved learning about the Bible. She attended Bellview Baptist Church, Walden Chapel, and Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church. After moving to Rome, GA., she attended New Armuchee Baptist Church. She loved teaching others the Word of God and singing in the Choir to hear a joyful noise. Her favorite verse that she quoted to everyone was “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them. “(Matthew 18:20).

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James and Garland Wade; her first husband, William Edward Hopper; sons, William (Don) Hooper and Jerry Cecil Hopper; and a baby daughter, Janice Hopper; her second husband, Ray Wear, of Rome GA.

She is survived by her daughter, Jewell Ray, of Priceville. Her special grand- daughter, Donna Wright (Jamey), who took her to doctor appointments and cared for her deeply, spending time together was a Blessing to both of them. Her grandchildren: Jay Hopper, of Decatur, Gene Hopper, of Decatur; Sharon Givens (Roger), of Moulton, Melanie Greene (Hugh Jr.), of Somerville; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Marie Morgan, of Decatur, Shirley White, of Danville; her two special nieces, Kay Carroll (Dan), of Decatur, and Yvonne White, of Moulton; special nephew, Alan “Red” Morgan (Carolyn). Her daughter-in-law, Betty Hopper, of Decatur. She had special friends that she thought of as children, Linda March (Gene) of Madison; Hugh Greene Sr. (Susan), of Somerville; Glenda Godfrey, Debbie Godfrey, and Cathy Franks, all of Rome, GA. She would always tell everyone how much she loved them.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Donna Wright, Danny Duncunn, and Dwight Bowling officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the Chapel. Burial will follow at Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery, in Decatur, AL.

Pallbearers will be Jay Hopper, Alan Morgan, Carl Smith, Willie Foster, Alan Wright, and Robbie Long.

The Family would like to thank the nurses from Enhabit Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they showed during this time. A very special thank you to a wonderful and phenomenal caring nurse, Jessica. She made this journey a lot easier and the family always felt at peace. We love you, Jessica, and will never forget you.
