Funeral services for for Mrs. Ruby Ricks will be:

12:00 Noon ~ Tuesday, November

First Missionary Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, AL

Rev. Otis B. Smith, Jr., officiating.

Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia, AL,

She will be placed in the church one hour prior.

Public viewing will be Monday, 9:00am – 8:00pm.

Mrs. Ricks passed away Nov. 15, 2012, at Helen Keller Hospital. She was a native of Lawrence County, AL, and had been a resident of Tuscumbia, AL, since 1942.

Mrs. Ricks was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society, Church Mass Choir, Decoration Committee, Seven Star Club, served as benevolent secretary of the Women’s Sunday School Class, and chairperson of the Funeral Ministry. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, flower gardening, sewing, and fishing. Nursing was her calling and she retired as a nurse assistant after many years. Her formal education was at Leighton Training School, Leighton, AL.

Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her husband; Mr. Dillard Ricks, Sr., parents; Mr. Vera Clay Warren and Mrs. Ida Blanche Davis Warren, grandson, Christopher Brandon Byrd, brothers; James, Wendell, Crawford, Dennis, Harold, Crable, Charles Waylon, Calvin, and Bobby Ray Warren, sisters; Minnie Pearl Piller, Evelyn Warren, Addie Mae Oates, and Willa Dean Pierce.

She is survived by a son, Dillard Ricks, Jr., Tuscumbia, AL, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Jeanette and William Brewer, Sheffield, AL., brother, Henry A. (Hilda) Warren of Muscle Shoals, AL., grandsons; Randy (Cynthia) Byrd, Huber Heights, OH, Bamgboye Cole, Marietta, GA, granddaughters; Jennifer L. Byrd, Gautier, MS, Cecily L. Ricks, Florence, AL., three great grandsons, two great granddaughters, one great-great granddaughter, brother-in-law, Theodore (Bobbie)Ricks, Cleveland, OH, sister-in-law, Annie Laura Ricks, Sheffield, AL, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society (Paul E. Johnson Memorial Steppers Relay for Life).
