Ruby Mae Johnson Ruby Mae Johnson, age 96 of Sewanee, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Sewanee on October 26, 1923 to the late Charlie William and Gladys Mae (Rousey) Johnson. Ruby had been previously employed at the shoe factory, Sewanee Steam Laundry, and at the Parrish House, where she loved taking care of the children of the Sewanee Community. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and in her younger years square dancing. Ruby was baptized in 2009 at Midway Baptist Church, and when unable to attend she would watch Joel Osteen. Her family will remember her sweet spirit and radiant smile, she was truly a best friend and mother to all those who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Johnson, Jackie Johnson, and Joe Johnson. She is survived by her siblings, Betty Johnson of Sewanee, Buddy Johnson of Sewanee, Jim Johnson of Estill Springs, Johnny Johnson of Sewanee, and Judy Johnson of Sewanee; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Minister Michael Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Eastern Star Cemetery with Troy Hood, Michael Johnson, Anthony Ingle, Michael Vaughan, James Vaughan, and Jacob Clark serving as pallbearers.
