Ruby Jo Dunnavant of Athens, AL passed away peacefully at her home on December 1, 2021. Visitation will be at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 7th, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Debbie Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow at Athens City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marvin Putman, Pete Delay, Ramin Ghadimi, Justin Ghadimi, Emily Ghadimi, and Noah Ghadimi.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Ghadimi and husband Robert; three grandchildren, Ramin Ghadimi and wife Jill, Justin Ghadimi, and Emily Ghadimi; nephew, Pete Delay and wife Katherine; niece, Cheri Delay; and three great-grandchildren, Noah Ghadimi, Breeze Ghadimi, and Zora Ghadimi.
Mrs. Dunnavant is preceded in death by her husband, James Ellis Dunnavant; son, Anthony Dunnavant; parents, Thomas and Lacy Pettus; and sisters, Anna Dew Townsend, Iva Delay.
Ruby Jo was a graduate of the University of North Alabama with a B. S. degree in Education. She retired after thirty years as an elementary school teacher for Athens City Schools and was fondly remembered by countless former students. She enjoyed an active retirement running her beauty shop, sewing, reading, and gardening. She and her husband also spent quality time in their retirement restoring and collecting antiques, and volunteering with Donnell House and The Salvation Army. She was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church. She will be missed by all who knew her.
