  Royce “Hop” Gibens, 83, of Dumas, MS passed away peacefully on Sunday morning March 23, 2025.

Visitation will be held on Monday evening March 24, 2025, at Ripley Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A celebration of Hop’s life will be held on Tuesday March 25, 2025, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Pine Grove, MS with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM and services to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Box Chapel. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor his memory

Born on May 21, 1941, to the late Frank and Flora (Stroup) Gibens, Hop lived a life defined by hard work, fun, and spending time with his friends and family. A retired farmer, truck driver and longtime employee of Grisham Asphalt & Paving, Hop found joy in the work he did. Whether behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler or working the land, he embodied the values of dedication, perseverance, and love for the simple things in life. He also had a deep passion for music, filling his home and heart with country classics and Southern gospel that he could shake a leg to.

Hop was husband to his beloved wife of 61 years, Geraldine Partlow Gibens. Together, they built a strong and loving family. He leaves behind his children: Steve Gibens (Kim), Mark Gibens (Debra), and Paul Gibens (Summer); five grandchildren: Nicole Bullock (Chris), Nick Gibens (Haley), Dustin Gibens (Cristy), Ally Trull (Julian), and Ella Gibens; six great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Lavonia “Lucy” Coburn and Loyce “Molly” Roberson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory.

Hop was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Patsy French, and his brothers, Wesley and Daniel Gibens.
