Roy Winford Powell, Sr., age 80, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was a native of Lawrenceburg, TN, owner of Roy Powell Trucking, former Lawrence County Sherriff, and former Street Commissioner. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceburg and Mimosa Masonic Lodge #542 where he was a Master Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Irene Beckham Powell; and two sisters, Rebecca Dunkin Gray and Audrey Luffman.
He is survived by his wife, Earlene Jeanette Powell of Lawrenceburg, TN; two sons, Michael R. Powell and Roy Powell, Jr. (Karen) both of Lawrenceburg, TN; two granddaughters, Jill Powell Moore (Brice) of Five Points, TN and Lindsay Powell of Lawrenceburg, TN; beloved dog, Sadie; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Melinda Goolsby.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday, December 20, 2019 with a masonic service to follow. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN
