Roy “Wade” Reid, 73, of Tuscumbia, AL passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024. Visitation will be Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 10-11:30 a.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel in Tuscumbia, with a service to follow with Rev. Shane Swinney officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Reid and Frances Elise Rutherford Reid.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Donna Reid; and their children Michael Reid (Michelle), and Christy Reid McKinney.

Wade was close with all his family and especially the grandchildren: Hartley Reid, Ann Tyler McKinney, Brady McKinney, Megan Darby (Cody) and Bailey Martin (Russ). He dearly loved his two sisters, Lisa Ruggles (Doug) and Lucy Swindle (Ryan). Other special nieces and nephews include Hanna Ruggles, Hunter Cook (Loren), and Reid Ruggles (Hannah). He got so much joy watching his great grandchildren which include Tate Darby, Finn Darby, and Rowan Martin plus the great nephews Teddy Ruggles and Carter Cook. He has another great – granddaughter due in March to be named after him, Ivy Wade Thompson.

Wade was a graduate of Muscle Shoals High School class of 1970. He was a farmer early on in his career. He later worked for the City of Muscle Shoals from which he retired in 2017. Those of you who knew him know how much he liked to talk to people. If you were ever out in public and couldn’t find him, he would have found someone he knew or even a stranger to talk to. He loved to tell his family as they called “his stories”. He loved doing any activities that involved his family, especially outdoor activities like hunting and fishing with his son, hanging out with his daughter anywhere, especially on beach trips and ballgames. He loved any activity that included the grandchildren. He was also a big Deshler football and baseball fan. He loved him some Auburn Tigers!

The family would especially like to thank Dr. Eric Santiago, Dr. Brett Barlow, and Dr. Amit Mehta, Helen Keller Hospital 4th floor nursing staff and Hospice of North Alabama. Also, a heartfelt thank you to a host of special care givers who cared for him the past year, especially Ginny Burgess (Hospice nurse).

Paul Bearers will be Brady McKinney, Hunter Cook, Reid Ruggles, Ryan Swindle, Doug Ruggles and Greg Atkins.  Honorary Paul Bearers will be Ken Gresham, William Osborn, Cody Dozier, Terry Pitts, Donald Thomason, and Trooper Thompson.
