Roy W. Smith, age 93 of Oakman, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at his residence.
Graveside services will be Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Gray Cemetery. Rev. James Russom will officiate.
Roy W. Smith was born on April 13, 1928 to Attley and Della Smith in America, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Edith “Nell” Brunner on September 26, 1947 and had 3 daughters. Together they answered God’s call to the mission field and prepared at Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon graduation in 1970 they ministered to the Quechan Indians in Winterhaven, California through 1975. They returned to Alabama and served as pastors in several churches until the death of Nell in 1987. Roy met Janie “Sue” Franklin and they married in November 1989. Sue joined Ray as he continued to serve in pastoral ministry and in retirement at their local church, Parrish Church of the Nazarene.
Roy is survived by his Wife-Janie Sue Smith; Three daughters-Susan Theresa Russom (James), Sherree Denise Kiser (Jock), Spring Lynn Key (Randy); 10 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; Many special nieces and nephew.
