Roy Thomas Laughmiller, 85, passed away Dec. 9, 2016, surrounded by family after a brief battle of cancer. Mr. Laughmiller was born on Nov. 2, 1931, at Harris Station in Limestone County, Alabama. Visitation will be Monday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a celebration of life following at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Roselawn Funeral Home with Brother Steve Smith of Beltline Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Roy Laughmiller retired from Monsanto after 31 years in 1985, and after retiring spent several more years running the family store, Laughmiller Texaco in Tanner. He was a member of American Legion Post, and a Korean War veteran. Mr. Laughmiller enjoyed his work as a car transfer driver for Lynn Layton Chevrolet. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in Orange Beach. Mr. Laughmiller was an active member at Beltline Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee Laughmiller and Lucille Hardiman Laughmiller, and his granddaughter, Jayme Kathryn Laughmiller.
Mr. Laughmiller is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Nell Thompson Laughmiller; sons, Michael Laughmiller (Donna), of Decatur, and Jay Laughmiller (Marie), of Brentwood, Tennessee; brother, William Laughmiller, of Hoover; sister, June Glisan (Ben), of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Whitney Warren (Martin), of Decatur, and Laken Laughmiller, of Chicago, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Lucy and Wynn Warren.
Pallbearers will be Laken Laughmiller, Martin Warren, Ben Glisan, Chris Glisan, Lee Munn Laughmiller and Chuck Thompson, and honorary pallbearer will be Pedro (Pete) Carulo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of North Alabama or Beltline Church of Christ building fund.
