Roy May, 103 years, passed away on January 25, 2019. He was born in Winfield, Alabama, on September 3, 1915 to Grant C. and Aver Porter May and had three younger brothers, Oveat, Joe Neal and Ellis all who preceded him in death.
He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1939 and received B.A. Degree in Education with majors in mathematics and chemistry. He taught mathematics in Cullman, Alabama High School from 1939 till 1942 and then went to work for TVA in Muscle Shoals as a chemist.
He married Jean Williams of Sheffield, Alabama in 1946, who passed away in August of 2000. He took a leave from TVA and received his Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry from The University of Tennessee in 1948 and then returned to work for TVA in Muscle Shoals. His career with TVA spanned 35 years and he retired in 1978.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sheffield since 1949 and served as an elder. He was active as a Meals on Wheels delivery coordinator/driver and performed this task for 28 years. He enjoyed astronomy, walking, golf, his cabin on Wilson Lake, and Alabama football.
He is survived by sons, Warren May of Muscle Shoals, Alabama (wife Melinda) and grandson David (wife Danza), Dr. Richard May of Helena, Alabama (wife Lynn) granddaughter Marleigh, grandson Justin Lewis (wife Megan) and great grandsons Wesley and Sawyer.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday the 29th at the First Presbyterian Church in Sheffield, officiated by Pastor Jaina Glaze. Visitation will be from 11:30 until 12:45 in the assembly room and funeral service following in the Sanctuary at 1:00.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery Sheffield (no graveside service). Graveside visitation for family and friends after entombment 4:00.
