With a blend of sorrow and cherished memories, we remember the life of Roy Lee Noble, who fell asleep in death on January 18, 2024. Roy was one of seven children born in Madison, Alabama to George and Lucille Noble on May 21, 1952. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Noble; sisters, Dorothy Williams, Juanita Hammonds, and Caroline Jackson; and daughters, Tamir Riley and Kim Horton.
Roy received his education by attending West Madison Junior High and Sparkman High schools. The love of the game of basketball inspired him to reach to new heights. He received a full basketball scholarship to attend J. C. Calhoun Junior College in Decatur, Alabama, Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama. Roy participated in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament in Kansas City, Missouri in 1975. After college, Roy talked to the Detroit Pistons, was scouted by the Harlem Globetrotters, and was offered a one year athletic scholarship to attend Wilfred Laurier University in Ontario, Canada.
In 1976, Roy joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1982. Since leaving the Air Force, Roy has been a 100% disabled veteran.
Roy has been an avid jazz lover with membership in the Tennessee Valley Jazz Society. Roy was baptized and joined the Highland Baptist Church in Pulaski, Tennessee. He is a member of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. He also supported the Temple of Binai Shalom in Huntsville, Alabama.
Roy is survived by daughter, Teresa Noble; son, Christopher Noble; brothers: George Noble (Elizabeth), Gregory Noble (Jenny), Marcus Noble; sister, Angela Lovelady; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Royal Chapel of Memories (4315 Oakwood Avenue NW, Huntsville, AL 35810) with Pastor Alonzo Noble officiating.
Public viewing will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Royal Funeral Home.
