Roy Hoyt Martin, Jr.Roy Hoyt Martin, Jr., 82, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020. He was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina to Roy Hoyt Martin and Beatrice McCullough Martin. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Bernard Martin. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Lamb Martin; son, Greg Martin; daughter, Gina Johnston (Cade); grandchildren, Sam, Drew, and Emma Johnston; several cousins, nephews, and a niece.

Roy was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and North Carolina State University (Industrial Engineering, 1961). He served in the US Coast Guard on both active and reserve duty. The majority of Roy’s career was at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center where he worked in programming, scheduling, and budgeting on several programs including Skylab, Hubble Space Telescope, and the International Space Station.

Roy had a strong faith and lived out that faith quietly serving others. He was an active member of Huntsville First United Methodist Church and the Faith Sunday School Class for 42 years. His greatest joys were his family and spending time at the beach. His friends and family members will especially remember him for the thoughtful cards and emails that he sent for practically any occasion.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22 at Maple Hill Cemetery, respecting social-distance regulations. (www.laughlinservice.com)

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huntsville First United Methodist Church Faith Property Endowment Fund or the charity of your choice.
