Roy F. Claytor, Jr., aged 62, passed away in Huntsville, AL, on Feb. 27, 2016. He is survived by his mother, Mary L. Johnson Claytor of Hollywood, AL, his sister, Mary Elizabeth Claytor, DVM, and her husband Terry Tucker of Homewood, AL, and his close friends who became his adopted family, Scott McDermott, Steve Marz, Alice Battle, and Martha Russell. He was preceded in death by his father, Col. Roy F. Claytor (USAF ret.) in 2003.
The son of a military family, he lived most of his early life at various Air Force bases around the globe, where his father was base commander. His favorite childhood home was Hickam AFB in Honolulu, HI, a place where he and his sister shared many sweet memories and hoped one day to return.
When his father retired, his family moved to the family farm in Hollywood, AL. Roy received his BA in managerial accounting from Samford University in Birmingham. He then moved to Huntsville, AL, where he began his real estate career at Ben Porter Real Estate nearly 40 years ago. Real estate was his passion, and he pursued it with the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and kindness. He was always eager to provide help and advice to his colleagues, and he was well-known for his knowledge, enthusiasm, humor, and optimism.
Throughout his career, he received highest honors at every real estate company with which he was affiliated. Most recently, he was the #1 agent at Crye-Leike since it opened in Huntsville in 2009. In 1996, he became a member of the Howard Brinton Star Power Club, a prestigious national group of real estate professionals who had achieved the highest level of excellence in production and client services. Through the Star Power Club, he became a national speaker and teacher. Locally, he served the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors for many years as an orientation teacher, the leader for the MLS Caravan, and he also served on numerous committees for the Board of Realtors. He was a member of WCR for many years and served as president. In 2015, he was selected as Realtor of the Year, and in January, he was inducted as Secretary/Treasurer of NALMLS/HAAR. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy and will be missed by countless friends, former clients, and colleagues whose lives he touched, but most especially his loyal staff and broker at Crye-Leike.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 on Thursday, March 3, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home at 2320 Bob Wallace Avenue. Services will be held on Friday, March 4, at 11:00 at Church of the Nativity, Episcopal, 208 Eustis Avenue, with a reception following next door at Ridley Hall. Graveside services will be private. Pallbearers are Terry Tucker, Scott McDermott, Steve Marz, Jeff Nixon, Robert Morris, William Reynolds, Woody Marks, and Steve Prucha. Honorary pall bearers are Daniel Calens and C. E. Lee.
