Roy Clayton Syler, age 93 of Lynchburg, Tennessee died on September 17, 2020, after a short illness. Clayton was born on June 23, 1927 on the farm where he resided in the Hurdlow community in Moore County. He graduated from Moore County High School in 1947 where he played football under Coach Shirley Majors. Clayton was a WWII Veteran and served in the United States Navy when he turned seventeen and after eighteen months when the war ended came back and finished high school. He worked several years in construction, but always wanted to farm. In 1960 Clayton and Maggie purchased the family farm in the Hurdlow community that is now know to many as the Syler 7 Farm, a Century Farm in the state of Tennessee. Clayton was also a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge, 509 in Lynchburg, TN. He was a long time member and deacon at Arbor Primitive Baptist Church and in recent years attended Marble Plains Baptist Church. Clayton enjoyed farming, family, and friends. Even at age 93, Clayton enjoyed farming, getting up to feed calves or getting on the tractor to work in the hay. If he could find three willing players, a good game of Rook was in order. Clayton is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maggie Syler; his five children, Kerry Syler (Marie) of Lynchburg,TN, Rodney Syler (Lisa) of Franklin, TN, Rickey Syler (Sally) of Lynchburg, TN, Craig Syler (Amy) of Winchester, TN, and Tanya Vann (Matt) of Lynchburg, TN; and sister, Faye Moran of Brentwood, TN. In addition he was blessed with eleven grandchildren, Leanne Davis, Kurt Syler, Matthew Syler, Janna Abele, Britney Anderson, Benjamin Syler, Anna Bracewell, Eason Syler, Christen Herman, Heather Fanning, and Shaynee Syler; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Annie Syler; his sister Louise Tabor; his brothers Jake Syler and Leon Syler. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Interment will be at Lynchburg Cemetery with Kurt Syler, Matthew Syler, Benjamin Syler, Eason Syler, Dillon Davis, Clayton Davis, Sean Herman, and Clint Fanning serving as pallbearers.
