royRoy Albright, Jr., 79, of Florence, passed away November 27, 2013 at his residence. Dad was born December 15, 1933 in a log cabin in St. Florian. He built his own home on the site of the cabin; he spent the rest of his life there. Dad was raised in a strong Catholic family and he was devoted to his faith throughout his life. He was a former member of the 82nd Air Born Division attached to the 20th Special Forces. During his enlistment the 20th Special Forces were federalized by President Kennedy to help with the integration at the University of Alabama.

Dad was a member of the “Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local #760 for 62 years of which he was very proud. He was a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3989, St. Florian. He served as a City Council Member for the City of St. Florian. Dad met Barbra Ann Link, and they were married in 1964 and spent 44 years together until her death in 2008. Dad loved to plant and grow everything; gardening was his favorite hobby. He was a truly devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother; he will truly be missed.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 6 – 8 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with the rosary at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Father Edward Markley, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. Albright, Sr. and Leona Evelyn Eck Albright.

He is survived by his sons, Roy E. Albright, III, Christopher P. Albright; daughters, Angela Carol Haney (Tim), Victoria Marie Vandiver; brothers, Don, Jim, Ron, and Ricky Albright; sisters, Evelyn Newberry, Virginia Hale, Carol Powers, Patricia Gann; grandchildren, Tiffany Teuton, Kristi, Colby and Dylan Haney, Ali Hodges, Cory Vandiver, Bud and Evan Albright; great-grandchildren, Mason and Carson Teuton, and Brennon Parrish.

Active pallbearers will be Shawn Powers, Jason Albright, Tommy Albright, Shane Albright, Andy Albright, Cory Vandiver, Colby Haney, and Dylan Haney.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #760.

The family would like to thank Father Edward Markley of St. Michael’s Parish, Dr. Robert Mann for his friendship and bedside manner during Dad’s later life, Felecia of Gentiva Home Health; and all family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
