Rose Marie Winkler D’Agostino, age 89, of Huntsville died on Wednesday in Marshall County, Alabama. Rose Marie was born on April 24, 1926 in Memphis, TN to Gus and Francis Winkler. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Memphis, TN.
Rose Marie worked in the nursery at St. Josephs Hospital in Memphis, TN for many years, was a long distance operator during World War II, a certified bookkeeper through The Burroughs Corporation, and a master baker and cake decorator.
She married the love of her life, Joseph L. D’Agostino Sr., in 1946. The couple resided in Memphis, TN and various parts of the South before making their permanent home in Huntsville, AL in 1966. Rose Marie was a Meals On Wheels volunteer and Catholic Charities volunteer in Madison County, AL for forty years.
Rose Marie was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Visitation for over forty years. Her greatest treasures were her family and friends. Her love for her family and friends was surpassed only by her unwavering faith in God and devotion to the Catholic Church. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her quick wit, amazing cake decorating skills, contagious laugh, and moments of inspired dance. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Rose Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph, and survived by their three children, Joseph Louis D’Agostino Jr (Peggy), John Francis D’Agostino (Janet), and Winkie D’Agostino, five grand children, and one great grandchild.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 5th at 12 noon at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation in Huntsville, AL. Preceding mass, visitation will be at the church at 10am-1130am with the rosary at 11:30am. Lunch will follow and then burial at Maple Hill Cemetery at 2:30pm.
