Rosa Marie Griffin Harris – Obituary

Rosa Marie Griffin Harris passed away February 27, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Sam Harris Jr., and her two sisters, Ann Langston and Ellen Barrett. She was born January 13, 1930 in Moundville, AL, the third daughter of Lee and Evie Griffin of Moundville, AL.

She is survived by three children, Mark Harris (Rebecca), Karen Rowell (Bill), and Laura Martin (Jeff); four grandchildren, Sara Evie Martin, Diana Victoria Rowell, Samuel Harris II and Rachel Erin Martin; sister-in-law, Corinne Shovelton (Graham); and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harris attended Huntington College in Montgomery before graduating from Auburn University. She taught high school in Hale County before marrying and settling in Huntsville where she was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Harris taught elementary and middle school for over 20 years in Huntsville before retiring and devoting herself to overseeing the Harris Family Farm.
Mrs. Harris and the family are thankful for her many home caregivers, especially Linda Flinchbaugh, Susie Moore and Judy Beigler.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mark Seanor officiating..

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society, 2745 Bob Wallace Ave., Ste. A, Huntsville, AL 35805. (www.cancer.org)
