Ronald Wilson Cleveland, age 76, stepped into eternity from his home he shared with his wife Barbara after a lengthy illness on November 28th. Ronald was born in Empire, Alabama on January 28, 1944 to Roy Chandler and Jessie Nora Cleveland.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Collins Burke Funeral Home and his celebration of life will be held at Philadelphia Baptist Church on Burrows Crossing Road on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., he will lie in state from 1:00 pm. until 2:00 p.m., with burial at the adjoining cemetery. Ronald was a member of Lamons Chapel UMC. Through the years he enjoyed working in his yard, watching Nascar, especially the years of Dale Earnhardt, Sr., taking road trips with his wife, and attending church services and activities. He enjoyed the holidays and family get togethers with their children and grandchildren. He spent the majority of his years working in the trucking industry, primarily with Bishop Brothers Hauling, of which he was part owner. He was very much a people person and formed life-long friendships with many of the drivers that crossed his path. His fur buddies, Lil bear and Jake will greatly miss him.
Ronald is survived by his beloved wife and friend that he affectionately referred to as his “duck”, Barbara Hunter Cleveland. Also his children and step-children: Georgette Smith Owens (Allen), Rocky Cleveland (Dawn), John Hunter Jr, Connie Williams (Daniel Camp), Mark Hunter (Misty), Christina Quinn (Chris Sharit), and Edmund Hunter. He leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Mason Cleveland, Alicia and Jessica Clark, Marsha and Brooke Williams, Lynzi, Logan and Carter Hunter, Cara and DJ Thompson, Janie Henderson, and Joshua Pruitt and 10 great-grandchildren: Holden, Harley and Aurora Clark, Lucas and Aiden Guthrie, Allyanna, Kali Mae, Kadyn, and Lillien Henderson, and Ava Posten. One sister, Sandra Simmons and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Lonnie Cleveland and a sister, Jeanette Moore and his mother and father-in-law, Eddie and Evelyn Mages.
Pallbearers will be Mason Cleveland, JonRex Simmons, Logan Hunter, John Hunter, Mark Hunter, Edmund Hunter, G.O. Lively and Steve Norris.
