Ronald Reed Owings

Ronald Reed Owings, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.  Born in Amory on August 27, 1946, he was the son of Eugene Reid and Sarah Louise Golden Owings.  Ronald was graduate of Nettleton High School and he attended Itawamba Junior College where he played football.  For many years he worked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation but most of his life was spent as a farrier.  He married the former Cheryl Hatley and he loved to raise and show horses.  In addition, he liked old antique cars.  Ronald honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Macedonia Methodist Church.

 

Memorials services will be held at a later date.

 

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cheryl Owings; one sister, Lisa Rhudy (Terry) of Picayune, MS; nieces, Karen Herndon (Daniel), Amy Mathis, and Lesley Jenkins; and nephews, Kevin Rhudy (Kriston) and Barry Mathis.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Barbara Virginia Owings.
