Ronald Edward Phillips, of Muscle Shoals, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the age of 73. His visitation will be Friday, January 18, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Ronald was a member of York Terrace Baptist Church and retired as CEO of Jimmy Dean Foods. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.
Lt. Phillips received the following decorations and medals: the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Silver Star, the Air Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, the Parachute Badge, the Bronze Star Medal w/ “V” Device and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Silver Star w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Army Commendation Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Edward and Carrie Beatrice Richter Phillips; and niece, Jennifer Wilson.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn Akers Phillips; sons, Ronald Tad Phillips (Angela) and Kurt Thomas Phillips; daughter, Kathryn Erin Phillips Hettinger (Chris); brother-in-law, William T. Akers; sister, Brenda Wright; seven grandchildren, Hunter, Maggie, Tristan, Ashton and Bella Phillips and Dakota and Hunter Hettinger; special family members, Titian Scales, Sydney Richardson, Finny Akers, Zeb Akers and Isabelle Akers; and other family.
Pallbearers will be family. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Burleson, Dwight Lansdel, Tucky Ginn, Brian Young, Jody Scales, Brandon Richardson, Pace Harrison and Jimmy McMillin.
The family would like to extend special thanks and love to Doctors Daugherty and Patel and the staff and nurses of the 3rd and 4th floors of Helen Keller Hospital.
