Ronald Allen Shelhamer, 74, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., went to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Ala. Visitation will be Sunday, March 23, 2014. from 1-3 p.m. at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Tuscumbia, with the service beginning at 3 p.m. He will be buried in Glendale Cemetery. Brother Greg Beasley will be officiating. Ron was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Earl Shelhamer and Grace Butz Shelhamer, and parents-in-law, Albert and Marie Leggitt.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maxine; two sons, Stephen (Pam), of Cocoa, Fla., and Scott (Gena), of Bartlett, Tenn.; daughter, Rebecca (Rick) East, of Tuscumbia, Ala.; six grandchildren, Ashley (Mercer) Sherman, Caleb (Beth) Shelhamer, Elizabeth Shelhamer, Davis Whitten, Nicholas Shelhamer and Derrick East; two great-grandchildren, Kate Sherman and Ainslee Shelhamer; brother, Richard (Sylvia) Shelhamer; aunts, Elizabeth Silcox and Janet Butz; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and three lifelong friends, Billy Reed, Al Schleinger and Burt Rothenburger.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Eckl, Frankie LaBoone, Darryl Tverberg, Sander Tverberg, Doug Myhan, Dan Roberts, Wayne Hester and Sammy Dennis.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons at Valley Grove Baptist Church and members of Marvin Lowry’s Sunday School Class, and Jerry McGee’s Sunday School Class.
Ron was retired from Bridgestone/Firestone. He served in the U.S. Army and received his Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Atlantic City High School in Atlantic City, N.J., where he was a proud member of the marching band. He also was a graduate of Pierce College in Woodland Hills, Calif., with a degree in business. Ron loved his God, his family and his church.
