Ronald Allen Mitchell, 88, was called to Heaven on January 31, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandad, great-grandad, and friend to many.
Ron was born on April 5, 1936, in Plant City, Florida, to Henry Allen and Audrey Mitchell. He graduated from Huntsville High School in the class of ‘54 and remained close friends with many of his classmates to this day.
He attended Auburn University where he met his first love, Mary Ann Bentley. They were married on June 22, 1958, and raised three wonderful daughters; Karen, Melinda, and Mary Kim. Before Mary Ann’s passing, they celebrated 55 years of marriage and many of life’s biggest moments together.
Ron was a devoted member of the United States Air Force and worked for the United States government until his retirement at the age of 52. He worked on several classified projects and could be trusted to handle sensitive material during his years of service.
Ron spent his golden years as an active member of the United Methodist Church, traveling to see family, and creating memories.
He was fortunate to fall in love twice and married his sweetheart Dee Nimetz in 2022. Together, they’ve gone on adventures, laughed, and cherished time with one another. They were always seen holding hands, smiling and radiating happiness because they were together.
Ron was known for his love of gardening, aviation, and a good Auburn football game. He liked to tell stories and would share them with anyone willing to listen. He enjoyed visiting the coast, floating in the surf, and searching for good seafood. He was a very strong man who balanced his tough exterior with a twinkle in his eye and an even bigger heart. He would (and sometimes literally did) give you the shirt off his back.
Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family. Ronald Allen Mitchell was very loved and will be deeply missed. He was “one of the good ones.”
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Allen and Audrey Mitchell; wife, Mary Ann Mitchell; sister, Willa Dean (Larry) Russell, brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Bentley, sister-in-law, Luci Bentley, and two infant twin brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Dee Mitchell; brother, Larry (Sylvia) Mitchell; daughters, Karen (Ricky) Stewart, Melinda (Jim) Brumbeloe, Mary Kim (Ralph) Murphy; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will take place Friday, February 7th, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Rev. Freddy Boswell will officiate with Rev. Eddie Johnson assisting; Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery.
