LTC (Ret.) Roman L. Galysh, Sr. LTC (Ret.) Roman L. Galysh Sr., 79, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, at his home in Huntsville, Alabama with his loving wife, Tina, by his side.

After graduating from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) as a young U.S. Army lieutenant, he led a platoon of soldiers through the jungles of Vietnam. Several years later, as a young Army Captain, he was stationed at Ft. Ord California, in the beautiful Monterey area. It was there that he met the love of his life, Tina. They were married soon after and their marriage would span almost 50 years. His military career took him to Rhode Island where he taught Army ROTC at the University of Rhode Island, then to Germany, Pennsylvania and finally to Redstone Arsenal where he served as the interim director of the Missile and Munitions Center and School (MMCS) before his retirement in 1986. For nearly 20 more years, he made a second career working in Huntsville’s defense contracting industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Joseph and Eugenia Galysh. Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Tina Galysh; his children, Tammy Kluesner (Raymond) of Huntsville, Dr. Roman L. Galysh, Jr. (Mary Emily) of Rome, Georgia, and Jane McClannan (Kent) of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren, Joseph, Christina, Izzy, Sam, Will, Quinton, and Tess; and brothers, Ivan Galysh (Oksana) and Taras Galysh (Stephanie).

A private funeral mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
