Funeral services for Roland “Pop” Hanner, age 89 of Ashland, will be held on Tuesday, April 10 , 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Richie Farrow and Rev. Wayne Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Hanner passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at his home. A native and life-long resident of Clay County, he had worked for Bemiston for 20 years, then worked 20 years at Madix as a shipping supervisor. Mr. Hanner was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon on July 6, 1969.
Mr. Hanner is survived by his wife of 65 years, Levis Hanner of Ashland; one daughter, Deborah Birchfield (Billy Mack) of Moody; one son, Mike Hanner (Lisa) of Shelby; one granddaughter, Micah Walker (Evan); four grandsons: Jason Birchfield (Summer), Joshua Birchfield (Kendra), Jeremy Birchfield (April) and Daniel Hanner (Paige); 3 great-granddaughters: Eva Walker, Paxley Hanner and Ela Birchfield; 9 great-grandsons: Brighton, Bailey, Zachary, Dalton, Clay, Caleb and Will Birchfield, Asa Walker and Jaxon Hanner plus many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Oscar and Nonnie Horn Hanner; one sister, Polly Gidley and four brothers: Herbert, Opal, Leroy and Ray Hanner.
Pallbearers will be Jason Birchfield, Josh Birchfield, Jeremy Birchfield, Daniel Hanner, Bobby Hanner, Ronnie Hanner and Evan Walker.
Roy Saxon, Tommy Campbell and the deacons of Olive Branch Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland.
