Rogersville Man Charged With Arson; Three-Year-old Son Injured In Fire

ROGERSVILLE-According to Authorities  Jared Lynn Hazelwood, 44 has been charged with seven counts of Arson 1st Degree stemming from a fire at an apartment complex in Rogersville on Sunday.

A fire call came into the Rogersville Fire Department at around 4:30 AM on Sunday, March 6 saying there was a fire at the Rogersville Park Apartments.  When firefighters arrived on the scene the top floor of the apartment building was on fire, extending to the roof.

A police officer at the scene went into the apartment rescuing Hazelwood’s three-year-old son who had burns to his arms and legs.  The child was airlifted to UAB Hospital.

 

Firefighters had the fire out in less than 30 minutes.  An officer was injured during the fire suffering minor burn injuries and has since returned to his duties.

Hazelwood has been charged with seven counts of Arson 1st Degree and more charges are expected including Attempted Murder.  According to investigators Hazelwood confessed to starting the fire. Hazelwood’s bond has been set at $420,00.
