Roger W. Black – Obituary

Roger W. Black, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the age of 72. His visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Funeral service will be in the funeral home chapel on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Jeff Abrams officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.

Roger was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and a lifelong patriot. He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer of the 20th Army Special Forces and retired co-owner of Advance Welding Supply. He was a former deacon and a member of the Disabled Veterans of America. Roger was also a member of the Tuscumbia Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Alma Black; and his brother, Hubert Black.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Black; daughter, Laura Peek (Jeff); sisters, Sue Brewer and Shellie Hellums; and grandson, Jaden Peek.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Williams for his longtime friendship and the medical care he has provided.

Pallbearers will be Chris Black, Bart Head, Steve Choat, Gerald Choat, Tommy Terry and Keith Willingham. Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Joly, Jack Underwood, Ronnie Hayes and Ray Cahoon.

In honor of his service, the family requests that any veteran that attends Roger’s funeral service please wear an American Flag lapel pin.
