Roger Elrod, aged 73, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital. Born on September 13th, 1952, in Athens, Roger was the son of Charles Bill Elrod and Virginia May Marie Bowers Elrod.
Roger leaves behind his devoted wife, Barbara Elrod, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his sons, Richard Elrod and Anthony Elrod, the latter with his wife, Mary. Additionally, Roger is survived by his siblings: Charles Elrod, Tommy Elrod, Mike Davis (Tommy), and Alan Elrod (Alma). Roger’s legacy also lives on through his numerous nieces and nephews, who cherished their time with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Virginia Marie Elrod, and his siblings, David Elrod, Earl Elrod, Ann Elrod, and Nancy Elrod.
Friends and family are invited to gather to honor Roger’s life during the visitation on Thursday, January 15th, 2026, from 12:00-1:45 PM at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Roger will be laid to rest at Reunion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Martin, Christopher Nave, Cory Elrod, Jonathan Lambert, Will Seabolt, and John Seabolt. Honorary pallbearers will be John Elrod, Billy Seabolt, Cody Hargrove, and Zach Hargrove.
Roger Elrod was known for his warm nature and never meeting a stranger. He had an enduring love for westerns, reading, camping, and spending time by the river. Animals held a special place in his heart, but most important was his family, whom he treasured above all else. A man with a great sense of humor, Roger’s laughter and kindness touched all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
