Celebration of Life for Roger David Smith,62, of Decatur will be Sunday, September 22, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Westmeade Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Scotty Hogan officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Smith, who died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Huntsville Hospital, was born November 20, 1950, in Paris, Tenn., to George Smith and Irma Virginia McCutcheon Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother. He served as minister of music at several churches in Alabama. Mr. Smith was a member of Westmeade Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the choir and the Stay Amazed Singers. He was a graduate of Samford University and Southwestern Seminary, and was employed by Cerro Wire.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bonita Smith; four daughters, Jamie Dear (Jeffrey) of Alabaster, Rachel Sadauskas (Brenton) of Washington, D.C., Miriam Bridger (Scott) of Garland, Texas, and Sarah Hearring(Richard) of Hartselle; one son, Nathan French (Shawna) of Kaneohe, Hawaii; his father, George Smith of Athens; three brothers, Steve Smith of Decatur, Alan Smith of Nashville, Tenn., and Kenneth Smith of Montevallo; one sister, Carol Owens of Hartselle; and 14 grandchildren.
