Rodney Hersey, 95, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Mr. Hersey proudly served in the Pacific with the Marines during World War II. A Mechanical Engineer with IBM, he made many accomplishments with the Space Program, having worked with Saturn, Apollo 5 and Skylab.
Mr. Hersey had been a member of First Baptist Church sine the 1960’s. After retirement from IBM, he worked with the church as the Building Engineer for 13 years. He also volunteered for 25 years with the American Red Cross at Huntsville Hospital.
He was always willing to help people in any way he could. He loved traveling, music and collecting antiques. Rodney was an inspiration to his girls, and was dedicated to his family, whom he loved dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Doris G. Hersey; daughters, Karin Marie Hunsaker and Denise Ruth Sneeringer (Richard); and grandchildren, Nicole Dismuke, Carrie Pavel, Allen Christopher, Sara Christopher, Timothy Godfryd and Alicé Godfryd; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. The service will follow the sanctuary with the Rev. Mark Seanor officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
