Roderick Wade Townsley Sr., 77, passed away April 22, 2016. He was a member of Riverbend Church of Christ where he left a tremendous legacy of faithfulness and service in the kingdom of his Lord. Rod was the previous owner of Townsley’s General Merchandise for 31 years and was still active in the business often visiting friends and family members at the store. Rod was a hard worker and was always willing to help anyone who was in need.
Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Frank Richey, Colby Junkin, and Don Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Townsley was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Clara Wallace Townsley; son, Wade Townsley; and a brother, Donald Townsley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Myra Mills Townsley; daughters, Cindy Chandler (Anthony); daughter-in-law, Freda Townsley; sisters, Linda Summers and Brenda Olive (Donald); grandchildren, Katie Hurley (Dustin) and Abbie and Denton Chandler; and great-grandchildren, Mady, Savannah, and Emma Hurley.
Active pallbearers will be Wiley Coats, Scott Irons, Colter Irons, Joel Summers, Jerry Campbell, Trent Butler, Rex White, and Dennis Morgan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hollis Wilson, Trey Behel, Gerald Wear, David Townsley, Bill Bretherick, Tommy Olive, Mike Rhodes, Danny Myhan, Ben Bretherick, Huu Trinh, and Wayne Graves.
Rod was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was loved by all.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. McFall, Northwest Cancer Center, Hospice of the Shoals, and Amedysis Home Health.
