Robert Wayne Burns 68, of Tuscumbia, AL passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017at home, peacefully in his sleep.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, AL. The funeral service will follow, 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Shoals Memorial Gardens with military honors. Melvin Mordecai will officiate.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, James and Naomi Burns. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. having served in the Vietnam War. He retired after serving twenty-seven years as Police Chief of the Tuscumbia Police Department. He was a life member of the F.O.P. He was owner of the Moulton Speedway, racing was his hobby for over 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia.
Survivors are his wife Carol Irwin Burns; daughter Melissa Burns; step-children; Mike, Ilah, and Julie; brothers Melvin Burns (Sharon), and William Burns (Joanie); sisters Vera Willingham (Roger), and Wanda Mitchell; special little buddy Trenton Glover; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; special nephews Matt Mitchell, and Mark Mitchell and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Tuscumbia Police will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
